The heartbroken family of cyclist David Pickup, who was killed in a hit-and-run crash in High Wycombe, have spoken out after their "agonising" 13-month wait for his killer to be brought to justice.

David, 28, a talented musician and lifeguard at Wycombe Leisure Centre, died at the scene of the crash in Hicks Farm Rise on January 16 last year.

His killer, Sakib Salim, who was driving on the wrong side of the road when he hit David head-on, was jailed on Friday for causing death by dangerous driving.

Sakib's sister, Rozia, was also jailed for perverting the course of justice.

In a statement from David's family, they said words are "insufficient to describe our loss", adding: "We hope that the sentencing of Sakib and Rozia Salim may serve as a deterrent to drivers, that they may be mindful of not causing death by dangerous driving.

"We would like to thank Thames Valley Police, particularly Sergeant Beth Walton, PC Phil Hanham and PC Sally Barden for all their help and support and also all family and friends, David’s friends, during this painful time."
