The Conservative MP for Wycombe Steve Baker has welcomed Carousel's plans to take over bus routes set to be cancelled by Arriva.

One of the most talked about things in High Wycombe over the last few days was the announcement by Arriva it would be withdrawing its bus services.  This has huge implications for people to get around the town for medical appointments, travel to work and school, and coming to the centre of town for shopping and leisure.

I was only speaking to a director of Arriva recently to raise constituents’ complaints about the experience of using the buses.  When I was speaking to them there was never a hint this was on the cards, so when I heard the announcement I was quickly working with other Bucks MPs to see what could be done.  The statement by Carousel it would be taking over the routes was a great relief, and within a few hours there was a joint call with Bucks MPs, the Council and Carousel to discuss this.

Carousel has now confirmed its planned routes for the town which you can see on its website.  I have written to the Traffic Commissioner to say I endorse Carousel’s plans and ask Carousel is given permission to operate.  In a meeting with Arriva directors this week Bucks MPs demanded reassurances there will not be major disruption to services.  We were insistent there was a need for a smooth handover to new operators including on season tickets, home-to-school transport and particularly access to the bus depot in Cressex, which should not be confused with the bus station in the town centre which will continue to operate as usual.   Another bus company, Red Group, will continue to provide services between High Wycombe and Aylesbury on its Red Rose and Red Line buses.  There is a plan to tweak the current routes to include a stop at Stoke Mandeville hospital and some of the villages between Princes Risborough and Hughenden Valley.

Carousel is intending to hold a recruitment day to recruit drivers and support staff on 2nd June.  If you have ever thought of working on the buses please go along and see what jobs are available.
