TOM Varndell and Ashley Johnson are both expected to be in contention for Wasps’ next home match, but there are still concerns about Hugo Southwell’s struggles with a hamstring injury.
Varndell hasn’t played since the opening day of the season after rupturing his biceps, but is ahead of schedule in his recovery.
Dai Young said: “Tom Varndell should also be up for selection next week. He’s back in training, more or less do everything accept for full contact. He’s probably another week off.”
Johnson should also be ready after a hamstring strain, but the club admit Southwell’s recovery is not straightforward.
The full back, below, hasn’t played at all this season and Wasps still don’t know when he’ll be fit again.
Young said: “Hugo’s is ongoing. It’s disappointing for him and disappointing for us. He doesn’t seem to be progressing, which is a bit of an issue.”
Nathan Hughes is also a long-term absentee. He will be out for 12 weeks with knee ligament damage.
