MARLOW Wolves American Football team are on the verge of creating history after another record breaking season.

All three of their teams won their respective age groups to go through to the Britbowl final - the British youth equivalent of the Superbowl - and be given the number one seeding.

The U12 cadets side went unbeaten throughout the entire campaign but it's the 14-17 age group - who, unlike the younger players, play in full kit including padding - that have been sweeping all before them this season.

They were crowned champions of the south west division for the first time after winning their latest tournament at Farnham Knights at the weekend.

The Wolves beat Cornwall Sharks 24-12, hammered Berkshire Renegades 46-0 and were awarded another 1-0 win after the hosts forfeited the final fixture.

It means Marlow finished the season having won 12 out of 12 - the most games they've won in a season, and the first time they've secured a 100 per cent record.

Three of that team have been awarded full scholarships to Britain's only American Football Academy in Bristol. They are Great Marlow School pupils Eric Sjostedt and Eddie Ntahira and Dennis Burgess from the Royal Grammar School - who has been called up to the England U19 side despite being just 16 years old.

Head coach Sam McKee said: "The biggest reason is the defence. They're conceding on average less than four points a game, which is historic. A touchdown is worth six points. In half their games they didn't even concede a point.

"Last year our guys were one of the youngest teams in the league, but only missed the play offs by one point. They're a year more experienced, a year bigger and they really brought the hammer to everyone."

McKee added: "Previous years have culminated to this point. The programme has got better every year.

"We could win all three titles and there's a realistic expectation that we will, but it will take a lot of hard work and a lot of focus."

The Britbowl play-offs will be held at Doncaster Rovers' Keepmoat Stadium on September 20.
