Amersham Swimming Club will once again be competing in the Premier Division of the National Arena League after earning promotion.

Amersham were relegated from the division by a single point last season but bounced back at the fist time of asking with wins in every round of this year’s competition.

Finishing first in every single round of the competition is a feat the club had never achieved before and Chairman Simon Dolan was delighted.

He said: “The Arena League is one of those competitions where having a cohesive team can mean make or break.

“We competed in all age categories showcasing the strength and depth of our swimmers.”

Amersham were thrown in at the deep end from the off this season as they came face to face with rivals Reading in the opening round of competition.

Strong swims from the girl’s under-13 and 15 relay teams saw them come away from the meeting with a hard fought win.

The club then travelled to Portsmouth in round two where they built on their lead as they strolled to a 51 point win over their nearest rivals.

Amersham highlighted their quality in the final round of races in Maidenhead as more than half of their swimmers came in the top two in their races.

Head coach, Lawrie Thompson, said: “I always believed we would regain our rightful place in the Premier Division.

“I set the bar high for all my swimmers and they didn’t disappoint. Everybody played their part beautifully, with many achieving their best times.”

Despite attaining promotion Amersham’s busy schedule did not end there as both the junior and senior squads were also in competition last weekend.
