HIGH Wycombe's most successful captain ever returned to derail his former club's title ambitions on Saturday.

Jason Harrison enjoyed 18 trophy-laden seasons with the London Road club but showed no sentiment as he sent Wycombe crashing to a five-wicket defeat that leaves their title hopes in tatters after just three rounds of fixtures.

Harrison's successor Gregg Pooley top-scored for Wycombe with 76 not out in their total of 208-4, but it was not enough as the visitors cruised to victory with five wickets in hand.

Meanwhile, in Division Two West Gerrards Cross were sent crashing to a eight-wicket defeat by Thame Town.

The defeat leaves Gerrards Cross more than 40 points behind leaders Tring Park.

Cross, who were among the favourites for promotion at the start of the season, had first use of the wicket but failed to make any impression as visiting bowler Sam Lachlan tore through the order to finish with stunning figures of 6-26.

Cross lasted little more than 29 overs before they were skittled out for 77, which Thame breezed past in the 24th over with five wickets still standing.

Beaconsfield fared little better against the league leaders.

Ovais Yousef scored 55 of their 144 runs, but it was well-short of being competitive as Tring steamed to a seven-wicket victory in the 40th over of their reply.
