High Wycombe racer Jack Goff is looking to build on a promising start to the British Touring Car Championships (BTCC) this weekend.

The 25-year-old IHG Rewards Club driver currently occupies sixth position in the overall drivers’ standings for the competition.

He picked up a podium finish during the 2016 campaigns first race weekend at Brands Hatch, and is now hoping to carry on his impressive form at a Donnington Park circuit he is very fond of.

He said: “The race pace was definitely there [at Brands Hatch], and there’s no reason why we can’t show similar speed this weekend.

“Donnington is a special track for me as it is where I won on my car racing debut in 2009, and I also won there during my championship-winning campaign in the Clio Cup.

“I’ve never been on the podium there in the BTCC, but that is certainly the aim this time, as well as bagging some good championship points.”

The season opener was by no means perfect for Goff as he battled to rectify an early race error and saw his qualifying compromised by rain.

He came out of the weekend with far more positives than negatives though, and will believe he has a car capable of bridging the 11 point gap to current championship leader Matt Neal.

It is a belief shared by IHG Team Principal, Dick Bennetts, who is confident Goffs’ car, a BMW 125i M Sport, is perfectly suited to the specific challenges presented by Donnington.

He said: “Donnington Park is a very different kind of circuit which consists of long corners of medium-to-high speed which rewards drivers who can carry momentum through the turns.

“The BMW is very well balanced and we should be able to give Jack a car capable of achieving some strong results.”

The Donnington triple header is a two day event and is the second of 10 rounds in the Championship. The races will be televised live of ITV4 on both Saturday and Sunday.
