An end of season tour to Bath provided Marlow Rugby Club’s under-9s with the opportunity to put a final gloss on their campaign.
The Bath RFC Mini Rugby Festival saw the club enter two under-9 teams (Tigers and Lions) and both sides reached the final.
The teams decided to share the trophy rather than play each other in the final, meaning both sets of players were rewarded with an end of season trophy.
The group stages saw both sides come through their four respective matches with a 100 per cent record.
In the quarter-finals the Tigers overcame hosts Bath by a score of 6-2 and the Lions eased to a 3-1 win over Wallingford A. Mini rugby sees teams awarded one point for a try rather than the customary five.
The Tigers semi-final was an altogether tighter affair as they were made to work for a win against Wallingford B.
In fact, Marlow were indebted to a superb tackle from Alex Ley to deny Wallingford a winner in the closing stages with the scores tied at 1-1.
The tackle proved to be the catalyst for a late Tigers surge and they went straight up the other end from the restart to claim a winning try through Billy Ray.
The Lions final was far easier as they cruised to a 5-0 win over Keynsham. Their rock solid defence proved impassable as Finn Keylock capped a fine overall performance in the tournament with a standout display.
