Wycombe District Swimming Club’s (WDSC) Katie Crowhurst produced a number of stunning swims at the British Para-Swimming International Meet last week.

The 12-year-old, who swims in the S13 category for visually impaired athletes, recorded personal bests in all of the categories she competed in.

In fact, her form was so impressive she finished the event In Glasgow with five times inside the World Class Potential Podium consideration speed. A performance which delighted her coach Cameron Roberts.

Roberts said: “I’ve been very impressed with how well Katie has raced this past week. She’s PB’d in all of her events whether that was in the heats or in the final.

“Going to Glasgow is tough without the rest of the team supporting her. However, she didn’t let that get to her and raced very well every time she stepped onto the blocks.

“She has done very well and shows great promise for the future. The next steps are ensuring that Katie’s focus remains on her training to ensure that she continues to progress as she gets older.”

Crowhurst started the competition with the 100m freestyle as she swam a time of 01.19.49 in the heats to finish 42nd out of 76 swimmers.

A further personal best soon followed in the 100m breaststroke where she recorded a time of 01.49.13 to reach the final of the event.

Far from being content with the final appearance the WDSC swimmer proceeded to trim more time off her own record as she finished 26th in the open age group with a time of 01.46.73.

Sunday would bring more success in the 100m backstroke as Crowhurst again lowered her best time in both the heat and the final to finish 28th overall.

More individual success later in the week saw her pick up personal bests in the 100m fly (01.39.33), 50m freestyle (36.00), 400m freestyle (06.11.82) and 200m individual medley (03.13.28).
