A superb century from Garth Davson led High Wycombe to a convincing nine wicket win over Harefield in the Home Counties Premier Cricket League Division One.

The foundation on which Davson made his match winning knock had been laid earlier in the day by the Wycombe bowling attack.

Things started brightly enough for Harefield as they eased to 31 without loss before Jonathan Burden had Jack Shiel caught for 17.

Paul Sawyer would make it two 11 runs later with the wicket of Jalpesh Vijay before the hosts settled down again to stop the flow of wickets.

Daniel Ogden led the rescue operation as he fell one run short of his half century from 72 deliveries.

Along with Oliver Richards (30) he took Harefield beyond the 100 run mark before Richards was caught off the bowling of James Benning.

Ogden did not last much longer as Uzair Amjaid had him on his way with Harefield on 117-4, before Poojan Vyas provided little to worry the scorers as he was bowled for 17.

Matthew Ogden would fall a run later to leave Wycombe smelling blood as they chased down the final four Harefield wickets.

They were wickets which did not last long and from the moment Douglas King was dismissed for 10 Harefield were struggling.

Two more wickets came in quick succession before Dhavalkumar Norotam, who had batted diligently for 45, was run out from the penultimate delivery of the innings.

The Wycombe bowling effort had been one of shared responsibility rather than individual flair as Burden (1-33), Sawyer (1-25), Conner Haddow (2-29), Benning (1-49), Amjaid (2-30) and Cameron Parson (1-33) all struck.

With a target of 213 set to win, the Wycombe response would be clinical in the extreme as Davson led the way from the off.

He was joined at the crease by Edmund Casterton (66 not out) and the pair wasted little time in tucking into the Harefield bowling attack to amass 159 for the first wicket. By the time the wicket did come Davson had hit 12 fours and three sixes from 77 balls for his 100 and Wycombe were all but home and hosed.

Casterton was joined by Sawyer at the crease who looked equally comfortable for his 27 in a relaxed chase which culminated in Wycombe reaching their target with 16 overs to spare.

With two wins from two, Wycombe’s defence of their Division One crown could not have got off to a better start and they are currently joint top of the table.

They will hope to continue their form when they take on Finchampstead in their next match, and will have every confidence in doing exactly that against a side who have lost both of their games this season.
