A superb strike from Marlow’s Alex Danson ensured Team GB’s women’s hockey team got to a winning start at Rio 2016.
Britain led through Lily Owsley’s goal before Georgina Morgan equalised from a penalty corner.
After Australia had gone close in the third period, Danson settled the match with an inspired finish to secure the 2-1 victory.
Danson’s winner saw her control the ball with her back to goal and fire an inventive reverse-stick shot to ensure her side got off to the best possible start in Brazil.
Team GB will now look ahead to their second match of the tournament which sees them take on India on Monday.
