BLUES boss Paul Lambert watched star striker Jermaine Easter show potential employers Plymouth Argyle just what he can he do when he converted a 95th-minute penalty to earn Wanderers a 2-2 draw at Dagenham on Saturday and then said it will take £40 million to buy him.

Lambert said: "I'm not going to let him go with just a fortnight to go before the window closes and leave me scrambling looking for a striker.

"We can't do it. As far as I'm concerned unless there's a bid of £40 million coming in, there's no chance of him going."

Plymouth declared their interest in Easter last week and The Championship side - who knocked Wanderers out of the Carling Cup - followed up their interest by sending their chief scout to see him in action at Victoria Road.

Argyle are looking at Easter as a possible replacement for striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake who is being linked with a £1million move to Premiership new boys Derby County.

And Easter, who admits he would be keen on a move to Home Park, did not disappoint the Devon club's spy.

He twice went close in the first half after bustling runs, fizzed a shot just wide in the second before keeping his cool with that last-gasp penalty to earn Blues their first point of the season.

Easter said: "Plymouth would definitely interest me. They're in the Championship and I've always said I think I can play in the Championship."

But Argyle will need big bucks to get him. Wanderers slammed the £125,000 they were offered by League One Swindon last week as derisory.

Adams Park managing director Steve Hayes said: "It was an insult to the player and the club.

"It made me angry. This is a player who was one of the top goalscorers in the league last year. He scored against three Premiership sides in the cup and is now a Welsh international - and they are offering that. It is taking the mickey."

Wanderers boss Paul Lambert is desperate to keep him even though Hayes has said all reasonable offers will be considered.

Lambert said: "He's a massive player for us and I need him more than anybody else."

Easter is out of contract in the summer and has so far not put pen to paper on the new improved contract Wanderers have been offering him.

But he says he won't let speculation about his future distract him from his job of scoring goals for Wycombe.

He said: "It has been unsettling but it's part and parcel of doing well and at the end of the day it is better to have those problems than not so I'm not going to complain about it.

"I had a good season last season and I just want to continue where I left off last season. My main concern at the moment is getting a first win on the board for Wycombe.

"Speculation is speculation. I just want to concentrate on playing football because when I'm playing I forget about everything for 90 minutes."

Plymouth have yet to follow up their interest with an official bid and Easter is expecting to take his place in Wanderers' attack for tomorrow's game at home to Bury.

In the corresponding fixture last season Easter's career took off as he smashed in a hat-trick to get his until-then unspectacular Wanderers career up and running.

He said: "That's where it all changed round for me. It got my confidence going and it would be nice to have a repeat of last year's game against them."
