FORMER Wycombe Wanderers scoring machine Mark West rolled back the years with a goal in Thame United's 3-0 win over Rayners Lane on Tuesday.

The 41-year-old player boss picked himself after becoming dissillusioned with his team's mis-firing strikers.

They went out of the FA Cup 2-1 to Wessex League Premier Division side Downton after failing to convert their numerous chances.

And he led by example notching United's first as they claimed their first win. After he showed his team how it should be done Paul Reading and Shaun Braun also netted.

West said: "I felt the strikers needed a kick up the backside because they have missed a few chances recently. But I am not the answer. This was a one off."

West, who scored 172 goals for Wanderers, then thanked wife Gail for keeping him in shape.

She is running next month's Great North Run for the British Heart Foundation and took him on a seven-mile run with her at the weekend.

He said: "It was just a loosener for her but I was lagging behind."

United visit Eton Wick in the Hellenic First Division tomorrow before hosting Prestwood on Bank Holiday Monday.
