WANDERERS boss Paul Lambert has defended his decision to remain in Scotland for part of the week and leave the team in the hands of coach Ian Culverhouse.

The Wycombe manager was criticised at the club's Fans Forum yesterday evening for not spending enough time with the players but said he was acting on advice given to him by the club's most successful manager, Martin O'Neill.

He said: "A certain Northern Irishman Martin O'Neill told me never to be familiar. I don't want to be familiar.

"Ian has been doing a terrific job and the players don't want to see me everyday anyway.

"It doesn't matter if we get the results on Saturday."
