PLANS to build a new super stadium in Wycombe were greeted with widespread applause at a packed Wanderers FC Fans Forum at Adams Park last night.

Blues managing director Steve Hayes revealed his vision for a new stadium with a capacity of between 17,000 and 20,000, which would be an enabling development much like MK Dons' STADIUMMK and not cost Wycombe District Council anything.

Hayes also revealed that he had bought an 11 per cent share of Wasps earlier in the week and joined their board, and that the rugby club would share the new ground with Wanderers.

Wasps need a ground with a greater capacity than Adams Park to meet regulations and new chief executive officer Tony Copsey is also desperate to increase the club's revenue to ensure they remain at the top of domestic rugby.

He has said he would be prepared to take them out of Wycombe to achieve this.

Hayes said: "Wycombe have a better chance of success if Wasps stay in Wycombe.

"Together we can pool our resources, save money, and have greater spending power."

The new stadium would also include hotel and conferencing facilities to make it self-sustainable.
