Wycombe striker Scott Kashket expressed his personal delight at hitting the back of the net for the first time this season despite the Blues narrow defeat to fellow League One outfit, Bristol Rovers.

Kashket, a 64th minute substitute on Saturday afternoon, raced beyond Rovers ‘keeper Adam Smith before slotting home from a tight angle with eight minutes remaining.

Despite proving just a consolation, the clinical finisher spoke of his delight at finding the back of the net.

“As a striker you want to get your first goal straight away and it was my first league game and I got my first goal so there’s not much more I could ask for.

Talking of his goal-bound strike in added time that was tipped round the post, he added: “It would’ve been nice if that second one went as well but you don’t always get what you want.”

The exciting young forward explained how he feels the team will be confident going into two consecutive testing games away from home.

He said: “I feel like the team is going to be confident going into it. When you travel the home team is usually the favourites so I think we’ll go into that being the underdogs, something Wycombe’s used to so I feel like we have a good chance.”

With the Chairboys only picking up one point from their first three league games this season, Kashket explained the importance of togetherness within the club as a whole.

The striker added: “If any club’s going to do well they’ve got to stick together and at this club it’s like a family.

He finished: “Everyone’s close. There’s only one team so everyone has to stay together and I think it’ll all be ok in the end.”
