Wycombe Wanderers and Luton Town shared the honours at Adams Park with a 1-1 draw after a lively encounter.

Joe Jacobson gave the hosts a deserved lead on 14 minutes from the spot after Sonny Bradley clumsily pushed over Matt Bloomfield.

Jacobson had a chance to double the Blues advantage with another penalty on the hour after Glen Rea was adjudged to have handled inside the area.

However, James Shea pulled off a superb save low to his left to deny the Welshman.

Luton were buoyed by that and Matty Pearson nodded home on 67 minutes after a mistake by Ryan Allsop in the Wycombe goal.

Anthony Stewart had a fantastic chance to give the Blues a lead after just two minutes when he volleyed into the side netting from 10 yards after Luton failed to clear their lines.

It was a lively start from both sides at a sunny Adams Park and Randell Williams had a half-chance on 10 minutes when he met Bryn Morris’ cross with a glancing header but it was just too high for him.

Luton hit back two minutes when Andrew Shinnie’s corner found Sonny Bradley who saw his header cleared off the line by Dominic Gape.

However, just a minute later, Morris’ magnificent 50 yard pass found Matt Bloomfield, He worked his way into the box before being clumsily pushed over by Bradley.

Joe Jacobson stepped up to coolly slot past John Shea to send the Blues faithful into raptures.

The game fizzled out slightly with Luton struggling to assert any authority on the game and Wycombe looking very organised.

Williams had an opportunity on 36 minutes when his firm strike from 20 yards was well held by James Shea.

Craig Mackail-Smith almost got in behind on 38 minutes when Adebayo Akinfenwa sent him clear but Matty Pearson got back well to cover.

Wanderers started the second half well and Williams saw a header easily held by Shea after an excellent Mackail-Smith cross on 48 minutes.

The home side were then awarded another penalty by referee Darren England on 58 minutes when Glen Rea was adjudged to have handled in the area.

However, Jacobson’s spot kick this time was superbly saved by Shea and cleared to safety.

Just seconds later, Akinfenwa’s header clipped the crossbar after a wonderful cross from Morris.

That penalty award and save ratcheted the atmosphere up a notch or two with Luton fans roaring their team on.

The Hatters saw a goal disallowed on 62 minutes when Dan Potts steamed forwards from left-back and crashed the ball home but there was a handball in the build-up.

Nathan Jones’ men then got the equaliser on 67 minutes when Pearson nodded home after an error by Ryan Allsop.

Akinfenwa almost scored a wonderful goal when he volleyed from 20 yards on 69 minutes but Shea tipped it over.

The Hatters were trying to get on top and an Elliot Lee cross-shot on 73 minutes just evaded everyone.

Allsop atoned for his error with a magnificent save on 83 minutes to deny Lee as he somehow tipped his low shot round the post.

Stewart nearly got a late winner on 88 minutes when he thumped a rocket towards goal that Shea parried away brilliantly.

The game was really stretched now and Allsop produced another incredible save to deny Harry Cornick a minute later.

Wycombe's goalkeeper again produced another world-class save seconds later as he tipped Pelly Ruddock's piledriver onto the post.

Morris nearly snatched it at the death for the Chairboys when his thunderbolt rocketed towards goal but Shea held on expertly.

All-in-all, a superb game of football and a great advert for League One which Wycombe should take great heart from.
