After their first game win against Winborne last week, Beaconsfield ended up second in this week’s encounter with a team which narrowly missed promotion last season, losing 38-19.

Banbury started strongly with an early try opening the score 0-7 and certainly gave Beaconsfield a tough test in the early stages of this match, with BRFC coming into this game on a high after their heroics the previous week

Beaconsfield then missed a long range penalty which was missed but then some great team play took the game to within metres of the oppositions forcing another penalty which they scored 3-7.

Then a nice piece of individual play by the full back James Lambert down the left flank stepped out of the tackle and ran the ball over for a try 10-7 with Aled Lewis providing a good conversion after 20 minutes of play.

He followed this up with a further cracking angled penalty for another three points 13-7. Not content with this he completed his hat trick of early penalties on the half hour 16-7.

Banbury replied with a come back try minutes later on the right wing 16-14. Then in the dying moments of the first half Beaconsfield replied with yet another penalty, again taken by Lewis, the score was now 19-14.

Both sides started strongly in the second half with Banbury getting the first penalty 19-17. They were showing that they were a side with many talents, it would be up to the home side to try and exploit weaknesses through the middle.

Then Banbury upped the pace of the game with their winger going over in the right corner for 19-22.

They repeated the move and moved the score on to 19-27. Next for the visitors was a period of numerous phases until they finally scored on the left wing, the home side put up a brave defence but eventually were over powered 19-33.

Beaconsfield came straight back pushing Banbury back into their 22, the home side still showing skill and the will to attack. But Banbury had the pace to deliver one last try taking the final score to 19-38.

This was Beaconsfield’s first taste of a good competent side with skill and fitness working to the end.

Next up is a trip to Oxfordshire as they face Witney tomorrow (kick off 3pm).
