Gareth Ainsworth is relishing this weekend’s “huge, huge game” as his Wycombe Wanderers side prepare to take on table toppers Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

Pompey are unbeaten in eight league games this term and Ainsworth is relishing taking on the league leaders in their own back yard.

He said: “It is going to be huge. It is fantastic to be taking on the league leaders.

“There is likely to be 17,000 down there. We have watched them and we know what’s coming.

“I have a lot of respect for Kenny Jackett [Portsmouth manager]. It will be tough but I have tough boys here.

“We have nothing to lose and no-one expects anything from us and I am looking forward to playing that underdog card.”

Portsmouth’s shining light this season has been Ronan Curtis, who joined from Derry City in the summer for a paltry £100,000.

He has already notched five goals and five assists this campaign but Ainsworth is not singling him out for any special plans.

He added: “We have good defenders and we are solid and we have good names in our team.

“I will show my boys what they are about going forward but hopefully we can get goals against them.”

Ainsworth, however, had bad news regarding Anthony Stewart, who limped off in the Oxford draw.

He said: “He has picked up a hamstring and it looks bad. He could be out for a while.”
