Wanderers defender Jason McCarthy paid tribute to manager Gareth Ainsworth as he is set to make his 50th appearance for the Blues tomorrow against Southend.

McCarthy was initially on loan at Adams Park for the whole of the 2015/16 season where he scooped the player of the year after a hugely successful campaign when he joined from Southampton.

The 22-year-old returned to sign a permanent deal with the club on August from Barnsley and McCarthy admitted who owed a lot to Ainsworth.

He said: “Time has flown by and I am so pleased to be back at the club.
“I have a lot of people to thank for that but the main one is the gaffer. He has been absolutely amazing with me, and to be honest, he is the main reason why I wanted to return to the club.

“He has given me the opportunity to play these 50 times for the club and I have a lot to thank him for.

“Also, I want to turn that 50 into 150 appearances. I don’t want to stop here and be pleased with this accolade.

“I really enjoy playing for this club and I want to carry the club forward and if we can do that together, then great.”

McCarthy is playing in his favoured right-back position and has slotted into the defence seamlessly since his return..

He added: “I have found myself all over the defence in 10 games. It is great playing with the likes of Sido Jombati and it is a pleasure to play with him and all of the back four.”
