Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth was pleased his side got something out of a tricky game against Fleetwood Town, drawing 1-1 with Joey Barton's side at Highbury.

Adebayo Akinfenwa cancelled out Paddy Madden's opener with a superb strike on 56 minutes and Ainsworth felt his side definitely deserved that and possibly more on a blustery night in Lancashire.

He said: "It was always going to be a game of two halves with the wind howling around like it did. It’s the only condition that ruins football in my opinion, and we saw Fleetwood go very direct with their kicks in the first half.

“They stuck in a great cross which resulted in a goal from Paddy Madden but we’ve got to be better at picking up our men. A couple of the lads put their hands up at half-time but we needed to stop the cross coming in.

“We’ve worked on what we need to be doing when we go behind in games, and how to stop ourselves conceding again and giving ourselves a mountain to climb. The big positive for us was not letting them in again – we stayed in the game and knew we’d get chances to score, which we did.

“It was a fantastic goal from Bayo and the keeper’s pulled off an incredible save from Dominic Gape as well.

“I thought Michael Harriman did well at left-back; they had pace down the wings but he handled it well. Dom Gape was superb in the middle, Bayo’s always a threat and Craig ran his socks off and should have had a red card given to their defender when he was the last man. It’s beyond me how the referee hasn’t sent him off.

“It wasn’t going to be pretty. I know people are shouting that they want to see us playing total football but we haven’t got the resources to do that. We want to be this team which is hard to beat and that’s what we’ve got.

"They’re a great set of lads, they’ll go to war for each other and now we want a win on Saturday to make sure last Saturday against Southend is a distant memory.”
