Burnham FC thrashed Penn 5-0 in this local derby in the Bucks & Berks Senior Cup at French School Meadow.

Goals in the first half from George Weller, Harry Pearse and an own goal have Burnham a 3-0 lead the break.

After that, Ryan Tackley and Dan Molloy completed a fine win for the visitors.

However, the home side played a lot better than the score-line suggested with their young side showing a lot of promise, especially in the second halF.

Weller scored with a bullet early on before Pearse's wind-assisted free kick made it two.

It was a procession after that as Burnham eased to victory.

Penn manager Gareth Williams explained although the defeat was fair, he was happy with some promising moments for his side.

He said: “We started the game really well but unfortunately we were undone by a wonder strike from 35 yards.

“The heads started to drop after that and apart from a spell of possession in the second half, we weren’t really in the game.

“We have an inexperienced side but games like this are great experience for them. Burnham are a good side and we play them another three times over the next few months so we can gauge our improvement next time we play them.

“The only way our team is going to improve is to keep playing and they can get that experience under their belts.

“As a coaching team, we are still learning about them and trying to come up with the right formula and once we do, we will be a threat.”

Penn travel to Wallingford on Saturday in the league for a crucial encounter (kick off 3pm).
