Mark Hughes has a full squad to choose from ahead of Saturday’s match against Bournemouth.

Saints were given a double injury scare when goalkeeper Alex McCarthy and midfielder Stuart Armstrong had to return early from international duty.

McCarthy had to return from the England camp before the Croatia game before Armstrong limped off during Scotland's defeat to Portugal.

Hughes said: “Everybody has come back ok.

“Alex McCarthy came back early from the England squad because he has had a bit of tightness for the last couple of weeks in his hamstrings.

“He did one session with the goalkeepers and said it felt uncomfortable, so he came back.

“It was the right decision for ourselves, and obviously for Alex.

“Everyone seems to have come through the international games fit and well.”

“For the most part, the guys have had a good experience and got some game time with positive results.”

Saints were missing a host of senior players over the international break but it was training as normal for the rest of the squad.

His side are on a run of four Premier League games without a win, which includes defeats to Liverpool, Wolves and Chelsea.

But Hughes insists that there has been a lot of good work put in on the training pitch during the time off.

He added: “It’s not ideal when everybody flies off all over the world.

"The last two guys to come back were Maya Yoshida and Mario Lemina who got back late last night and then came in this morning.

“But we managed to get some good work in.

“We had a group of about 12 senior players who had played a number of games prior to the break.

"It wasn’t just a case of spinning plates and waiting for people to come back, we could do some real quality work.

"And there was a lot of work we could do with those guys.

“We had a complete back four that we could work on and we looked at a number of things with them which was important.

“And we continued the good work when the guys who had been away came back."
