Craig Mackail-Smith produced a moment of magic in injury time, giving Wycombe a 3-2 victory as they came back from 2-0 down against Scunthrope United in a dramatic League One encounter at Adams Park.

Mackail-Smith finished expertly past Jak Alnwick after seizing on an error from Rory McArdle.

Two wonderful finishes from Dominic Gape and Fred Onyedinma looked to have given the Blues a deserved point after cancelling out early goals from the visitors.

Scunthorpe made the perfect start to the game with a goal after only 18 seconds when Ryan Colclough danced into the area and slotted past a stranded Ryan Allsop.

On seven minutes, Stephen Humphrys rocked Adams Park with a second goal, slotting home after excellent work from Andy Dales.

However, Gape struck a brilliant strike on 26 minutes after being teed up superbly by Adebayo Akinfenwa.

Onyedinma then bettered that stunner on 52 minutes, curling home a sumptuous effort from 20 yards after more wonderful hold-up play by the irrepressible Akinfenwa.

Wycombe were stunned by that early Colcough goal but they responded well and Craig Mackail-Smith came close with a header on five minutes after good wing play by Paris Cowan-Hall.

However, the Irons dealt the Blues a hammer blow two minutes later thanks to Fulham loanee Humphrys.

Scunthorpe were rampant and Wycombe were struggling to get a foothold in the game after their inauspicious start.

The lively Colclough almost engineered a third on 16 minutes but Joe Jacobson just about manager to clear his low cross for a corner.

Humphrys was proving a real thorn in Wanderers’ side and Allsop denied him with a smart save on 22 minutes after a wonderful cross from Dales.

Wanderers then pulled a goal back on 26 minutes thanks Gape's special strike.

The goal sparked the Blues into life and Cowan-Hall’s strike from the edge of the box on 29 minutes was excellently tipped away by Alnwick.

The Chairboys were getting on top now and Akinfenwa headed over on 34 minutes after Cowan-Hall had flicked on Jacobson’s corner.

Wycombe looked to start the second half on the front foot and Jordan Clarke almost put through his own net on 49 but Alnwick denied him at the near post.

And the Blues got the equaliser they deserved on 52 minutes when Fred Onyedinma curled a sumptuous effort into the top corner from 20 yards to give Alnwick no chance.

The Chairboys had a taste for blood now with Akinfenwa putting in an immense display against the two Scunthorpe centre halves.

Wycombe had a shout for a penalty on 73 minutes when Akinfenwa appeared to be bundled over by Rory McArdle but referee Alan Young waved away the protests.

The Blues were inching closer and Cowan-Hall saw a goal disallowed on 79 minutes after Akinfenwa was harshly adjudged to have fouled Alnwick.

However, the Blues were dealt a blow on 80 minutes when Allsop was given a straight red for fouling Ike Ugbo.

That forced Gareth Ainsworth into a reshuffle with Yves Ma-Kalambay replacing the tiring Cowan-Hall

Akinfenwa came so close to scoring a third magnificent goal for the Blues in the first minute of injury time, curiing just wide from 25 yards with Alnwick struggling.

Then Mackail-Smith settled matters to give Wycombe an incredible victory, putting them in fine heart ahead of the game against Rochdale on Tuesday.
