Wycombe Wanderers won their third game on the spin at Adams Park with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Rochdale.

Goals from Bryn Morris, Adebayo Akinfenwa and Fred Onyedinma sealed a hard-fought three points against Keith Hill's side.

Morris opened the scoring on nine minutes as his swerving 35-yard free kick flummoxed Rochdale keeper Brendan Moore and rifled into the net.

After a fairly even period, Akinfenwa made it two on 66 minutes, controlling Joe Jacobson's free kick with aplomb before smashing home a superb volley.

Onyedinma made the points safe on 71 minutes when he headed home Alex Samuel's wonderful cross into the top corner.

Rochdale had the first sniff after two minutes when Joe Rafferty got in down the right but his low cross evaded everyone.

Wycombe had the next opportunity and scored with it on nine minutes through Morris' piledriver.

The game hadn’t really kicked into life approaching the 20 minute mark, with neither side able to create too much apart from the goal.

On 21 minutes, Jacobson’s corner was missed by the nervous Moore but he managed to grab it at the second attempt just before Samuel was able to muster an effort.

Wanderers were starting to increase the pressure and a series of crosses into the box were manfully defended by the visitors.

Akinfenwa met Jacobson’s corner with a header on 23 minutes but it was easily gathered by Moore.

Rochdale were having some good spells of possession and after some intricate play on the edge of the box, Callum Camps saw his curling effort well held by Ryan Allsop on 32 minutes.

Jacobson was next to have a crack with his fierce strike saved well by Moore on 34 minutes.

Moore was looking bereft of confidence in the Rochdale goal with a series of fumbles and he almost let Morris’ long-range effort on 39 minutes nearly out of his grasp.

Keith Hill’s side nearly got an unlikely breakthrough on 42 minutes when Ian Henderson kept alive a through ball and his cross hit the base of the near post.

The visitors were finishing the half on the front foot and Jordan Williams’ piledriver went just wide a minute later.

Wycombe were always a threat in attack though and Akinfenwa’s lovely through pass found Samuel, who shot into the side netting on 44 minutes.

Rochdale began the second half quickly and Henderson nearly scored a superb goal on 49 minutes but his piledriver whistled just wide with Allsop struggling.

Dale were getting on top and Williams snatched at a volley when well placed on 56 minutes after Wanderers failed to properly clear Stephen Dooley’s cross.

Wanderers had a great chance to extend their lead on 64 minutes when Morris’ cute pass found Paris Cowan-Hall who teed up McCarthy with an inviting cross but his header flashed wide from eight yards.

And the Blues did make it 2-0 on 66 minutes through Akinfenwa's fifth goal of the season.

The Chairboys were looking to put their foot on the gas and they made it three on 71 minutes thanks to Onyedinma's thumping header.

Onyedinma almost scored with a rasping drive three minutes later but Moore parried away his rocket.

Morris nearly scored with an audacious chip on 89 minutes that hit the roof of the net.

Wycombe climb to 14th in League One and face Walsall on Saturday at the Bescot Stadium.
