Chesham United pulled off a shock as they dumped out higher-ranked Haringey Borough in the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy on Tuesday evening.

With the score 2-2 after extra time, Generals keeper Ben Goode pulled off three magnificent saves in the shoot-out to guide Chesham through to a tie against Worthing.

Dave Pearce gave the Generals an eighth-minute lead at the Meadow before Borough fought back to go ahead thanks to strikes from Chindu McKenzie and Charley Barker.

However, Jerri Maja equalised with seven minutes of normal time remaining to force extra time.

They more than matched their illustrious opponents over two matches as honours were shared in Haringey on Saturday.

On their artificial surface the home team took a fifth-minute lead, when Joel Nouble squared the ball for Lionel Stone to hit a rising drive into the top corner from the edge of the area.

However, Chesham were starting to get a foothold in the game and equalised on 65 minutes. Ryan Blake ran at the home defence from wide on the right, his shot was saved but the ball ran loose and Pearce controlled and shot into the roof of the net from close range.

Three minutes from the end of normal time, Haringey’s Joel Nouble set up Karl Akinwande who blasted the ball well over the bar form just outside the box

Chesham are back in Evo-Stik league action on Saturday when they face Gosport Borough away (kick off 3pm).
