High Wycombe RFC travelled to take on league leaders Windsor in the Southern Counties North Division on Saturday and came away with an impressive victory 21-27.

Alex Chietan was able to score for Wycombe from a rolling maul to give the visitors an early lead.

After some mixed play by both teams Wycombe found themselves in an advantageous position following a scrum. The ball was fed out quickly to Wardle who handed off a couple of Windsor players to score in the corner, he was unable to convert the kick.

Windsor hit back and were awarded a penalty at a scrum. The kick took the play to eight metres from the Wycombe line and following a rolling maul Windsor scored, with the kick made. The half-time score 7-10 to Wycombe.

It was Wycombe who struck first in the second half, and some excellent play resulted in Musa Umar scoring in the corner with the kick converted by Wardle.

Following solid work at the restart Wycombe gained a scrum from a Windsor knock on and with the scrum going forward Windsor conceded a penalty. Wycombe kicked for goal and took the three points.

They continued to push forward and it was not long until they moved the ball out to the backs and an excellent running line from Greg Butters allowed him to go over the line to score. Wardle converted the kick to make the score 27-7 in Wycombe’s favour.

Windsor responded to the situation leading to two further tries and successful conversions but Wycombe nabbed a famous win.

They now face Littlemore away on Saturday (3pm).
