Wycombe Wanderers have secured the emergency loan of goalkeeper David Stockdale, who joins the Chairboys on a seven-day deal from Birmingham City.

The 33-year-old was in the PFA Championship Team of the Year just two seasons ago after helping Brighton & Hove Albion reach the Premier League, and was first-choice for Birmingham last year after signing that summer.

However, he’s yet to feature for the Blues so far this season, but played three times on loan for Southend United in September, and now returns to League One in time for Wycombe’s double-header of fixtures against Shrewsbury Town and Accrington Stanley.

The move follows injuries to both Ryan Allsop and Yves Ma-Kalambay which left Wanderers without a senior goalkeeper available, and while Matt Ingram returned on loan from QPR for the 1-1 draw with Sunderland last Saturday, he was no longer available for loan.

Chairboys manager Gareth Ainsworth said: “We were extremely grateful to QPR for allowing Matt to join us for the Sunderland game, which – conveniently for us – fell during international weekend, but now they need him back to provide cover for the goalkeeping position, so we’ve had to look elsewhere.

“David comes to us with a fantastic pedigree, having played at all professional levels in the country and receiving an England call-up, and we have no doubts that he’ll be more than capable of coming straight into the side and performing to a very high standard for us.

“I’d like to thank Birmingham for allowing him to join us and we look forward to seeing him in action on Saturday.”
