After six seasons of League Two football, Wycombe Wanderers achieved promotion back to League One in April 2018. Back in the third tier of English football, this season can be seen as one of consolidation for Wanderers.

Wycombe have put together a solid opening to their League One campaign. Football League fans can follow all the action with the Virgin Games promo code and never miss a kick. Although their results haven’t been as good as fellow promoted sides Accrington Stanley and Luton Town, the Wanderers are doing things right and a comfortable mid-table finish looks possible.

Adams Park is where the heart is

Bucks Free Press:

A football club must make their home ground a fortress, at least that is how the old cliché goes. Thus far, manager Gareth Ainsworth is living by the saying as his team has turned Adams Park into a formidable ground. Wycombe have obtained 15 points from 27 possible at home, which is the sixth best tally in League One. Wycombe’s 1-0 win over third-place Peterborough on November 3rd stretched their home winning streak to four games. Wycombe fans across the pond can follow them on Canada and stay up to date on the latest odds.

Ryan Allsop playing well in goal

Bucks Free Press:

Goalkeeper Ryan Allsop re-joined Wycombe over the summer after his contract with Premier League side Bournemouth expired. Allsop previously played 18 matches on loan with Wanderers in 2016. The goalkeeper may have journeyed around the Football League looking for a permanent home, but now that he has found it, he is showing a great deal of experience. Allsop has recorded four clean sheets in 17 games. All four shut outs have come at Adams Park and in his last two matches at home, Allsop has kept both Rochdale and Peterborough out of the net. The club’s astute signing of Allsop has paid off in the first season of the player’s three-year contract.

The Beast continues to score

Bucks Free Press:

“The Beast” Adebayo Akinfenwa leads Wycombe in goals with four this term. The big unit signed with Wanderers in July 2016 and continues to bang in the goals. Last season, Akinfenwa tallied 18 strikes in Wanderers’ promotion campaign. The in-form striker was nominated for the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month award for October after being in the short list in February 2017. He is an integral part of Ainsworth’s side and his goals will be key to success as the season continues. If Akinfenwa can get into double-digit goals, Wanderers should finish comfortably in mid-table.

Second half scoring

Bucks Free Press:

Wycombe have tallied 60 percent of their goals in the second half of games. The stat shows just how strong the players’ individual fitness is late in matches. It also is an indication of Ainsworth man management and tactics. In Wanderers’ most recent home win against Peterborough, Bryn Morris scored the game’s only goal in the 67th minute. In total, Wanderers have tallied 15 goals in the second half of matches. Nine of those goals have come in the final 15 minutes.

Wycombe have started the League One season well and can push for even more success. If Ainsworth’s men can catch fire as the season progresses, a top 10 finish isn’t out of the question.
