Former Royal Grammar School student and Beaconsfield player Ross Neal had a debut to remember for Wasps as he scored two tries in a 32-28 win against Bristol at the Ricoh Arena.

Wasps put their recent problems behind them with a bonus-point victory over the Bears which takes them back to third place in the Gallagher Premiership.

Wasps raced into an early 12-0 lead after eight minutes courtesy of a try on Premiership debut for Neal and another in which he teed up Juan de Jongh, before Ryan Edwards hit back for the visitors. Two Lima Sopoaga penalties gave Dai Young’s side an 18-7 lead at the interval.

Early second-half scores for James Gaskell and a second for Neal gave the hosts a comfortable 32-7 lead before a creditable Bristol fightback as replacement hooker Harry Thacker scored a hat-trick for Pat Lam’s men, setting up a very nervy finale.

Christian Wade, who also went to RGS and recently left for Wasps for a career in the NFL, paid tribute to Neal for his debut.

He said: "Congratulations to my fellow RGSHW old boy on your Prem debut bro. You did that shirt proud Ross."
