Beaconsfield travelled to a wet Banbury in the Wadworth 6X South West 1 East rugby league, but it was the home side who were dancing in the rain come full-time with an emphatic 50-10 victory.

Banbury opened the score with an early try going over near the posts putting them into a 7-0 lead. The visitors responded quickly though with a penalty from Aled Lewis just outside the 22 to keep the score close at 7-3.

Banbury however were proving to strong and it wasn’t long before they got their second try, getting the ball down field and using their strong forwards they arced into a nine-point lead but were unable to convert the score.

The home side were starting to get into their stride and before half time they scored another try sending the teams into the interval at 19-3

Banbury started the second half as they finished the first extending their lead straight away using their big second row forward to power over from a scrum position in front of goal in the Beaconsfield half to extend their lead to 24-3.

Determined not to go down without a fight Lewis took the ball from the back of a messy scrum and went over for the try, with his conversion it took Beaconsfield into double figures with the score 24-10.

Any idea of a Beaconsfield come back were immediately extinguished, as a powerful Banbury run bulldozed through the defence to give the home side a 21-point lead.

Banbury had their opponents where they wanted them now, with the visitors struggling to break out of their own half three quick tries were scored making the score a whopping 50-10.

A difficult afternoon against a strong side for Beaconsfield. On Saturday, they have a County Cup semi-final against Amersham and Chiltern from the London 1 North league (2pm).
