Wycombe Phoenix Harriers athlete, Pippa Woolven, represented Great Britain in the Simplyhealth Stirling Cross Country Challenge in Scotland and produced another excellent performance in her comeback.

The six best cross country athletes from the USA, Europe and Great Britain took part in this prestigious annual, team competition where British middle distance athlete, Laura Muir anchored Great Britain to victory in the mixed relay.

In the elite women’s event, run over 6K, Woolven finished fourth overall and the second GB athlete home behind, Charlotte Arter who finished second.

A tough, uncompromising race, held in the beautiful city of Stirling, was played out over Stirling’s Golf Course. It was a tightly packed field for the first two laps with Arter leading the race heading into the final lap but ultimately she had to settle for second place behind German Elena Burkard, competing for Europe. This was Woolven’s best race to date as she returns to form following a spell of ill health in 2018.

Team GB finished second overall, ahead of team USA but just behind a strong European team.

Woolven's coach Matt Whiting said: "'Pippa continued her excellent recent form on Saturday. Going forward, she's looking to build on this and hopefully compete in the World Cross Country Champs in March."
