Wycombe Wanderers defender Sido Jombati explained the 1-0 win was exactly what the team needed as they boosted their survival with victory at Bristol Rovers.

Jombati scored his first goal of the season with a 57th minute header from three yards out after an excellent corner by Joe Jacobson.

The win also represented the Chairboys' first clean sheet on their travels this campaign and Jombati admitted it was the perfect day for the side.

He said: "It was a tough game for us but we ground it out. We kept a clean sheet and that is exactly what we needed."

The goal came just before the hour mark and it seemed a very simple header for the Portuguese from Jacobson's superb delivery but Jombati revealed the work that has gone into set-pieces on the training ground.

He added: "We spend a lot of time on the training ground working on that. Me, Jason [McCarthy] and Adam [El-Abd] all split into areas and Jason attacks the front post, Adam the keeper and I go in at the back post.

"We do switch a lot and that is what we did the training on Friday for and it worked."

Jombati is normally renowned for spectacular goals but he explained that this one was just as spectacular as some of his world-class free kicks as it gave the Blues the win.

He said: "If a goal gives you three points then it is a spectacular goal.

"It doesn't matter how you score as long as it gives you the win. We needed the clean sheet as well and hopefully we can build from this."
