Wycombe Wanderers have made a deadline day signing, securing the services of QPR midfielder Charlie Owens on loan for the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old has represented Northern Ireland at youth level and has made one senior appearance for the Championship side, coming on as a substitute in the Carabao Cup against Bristol Rovers earlier this season.

A regular in the Loftus Road club’s under-23s, Charlie has represented Northern Ireland at under-21 level, and Ainsworth says he’s looking forward to seeing what his new recruit can bring to the Chairboys.

He said: “Charlie’s had an excellent upbringing at Tottenham and QPR, and we like the look of him from what we’ve seen so far,” he said. “He’s another exciting young talent at QPR and brings another option to our midfield, with a good range of passing and a bit of extra height which could be useful for us.

“He’s one that will benefit from developing his game in a first-team environment with us and I’m sure he’ll get his chance to get minutes under his belt and show what he can do.”

With over 11 hours to go until the deadline, Ainsworth will be keen to bolster his squad following the departures of Craig Mackail-Smith and Sam Saunders yesterday.

Owens will wear shirt number 15.
