HOLMER Green made it three unbeaten games in all competitions with a 3-1 away victory at Hellenic Premier basement boys Longlevens.

It was a vital win for Chris Allen’s Greens on Saturday as it put further distance between themselves and the relegation places with seven games to go.

Greens, who now sit a healthy 14th in the table, kept faith with the same team that thrashed Chalfont Wasps 5-0 in the Wycombe Senior Cup semi final last week. That meant a place on the bench for Greg Wright, Luca Perrin, Pawel Kotwica and Josh Adeyileka.

It took the visitors just nine minutes to take the lead when Dean Munday guided home a Curtis Stone free-kick for his eighth goal of the season.

However, Longlevens began to control the midfield area and they equalised in the 26th minute through David Rich.

It was no more than the home side deserved as they had already gone close several times only to be denied by Greens keeper Aaron Brown.

Holmer regrouped at the interval and, after an even start to the second half, Allen made a double change as Wright and Perrin replaced full-back Zach Crawford and Michael Duffy.

And they soon got their noses back in front when Stone whipped in a dangerous free kick and Dean Powles sent a bullet header past the home keeper for his fourth goal in 11 starts and a vital 2-1 lead.

Greens now had the momentum as Longlevens continued to live dangerously as a deflected Adam Riley effort struck the crossbar on 72 minutes before a left-wing corner also hit the woodwork.

The introduction of Kotwica with 15 minutes to go also reaped its rewards for the visitors.

The fresh-legged forward put the Longlevens defence under all kinds of pressure before he notched his side’s third goal in stoppage time.

Matt Wooster flicked on Munday’s pass and Kotwica robbed a defender before rounding the keeper and slotting home to cap off a vital victory on their first visit to Sawmills End.

Holmer Green face another big week ahead starting with a home clash against Hellenic Premier leaders Brimscombe & Thrupp (3pm ko).

Greens then travel to relegation-threatened Reading City on Tuesday night (7.45pm) before hosting the same opponents the following Saturday, both being league fixtures.
