STOKE Green have made a losing start to the new season after a 50-run defeat at High Wycombe 2s in Division One on Saturday, writes Rob Stevens.

won the coin toss and chose to field first at London Road, with the home side reaching 232-8 from their allotted 50 overs.

Captain John Stevens and Teddy Casterton got High Wycombe off to a good start with an opening stand of 114 runs.

Casterton top-scored with 64 runs before his was caught by Gagan Singh off the bowling of Jasraj Ghrial, while Stevens made 60 before his was cleaned bowled by Ghrial.

Number three Simon Janes made 49 and helped push the score to 232-5 but the final three wickets fell without any further runs being added to the total.

Ghrial was the pick of the Stoke bowlers with his figures of 2-22 from five overs, while Zulfi Butt claimed the wickets of Matt Pugh (18) and Aashi Zaib (19) in his 2-34 from 10 overs.

Chandrasegaram for a golden duck in his 2-40 from nine overs.

The visitors made 182 all out from 39.1 overs in response to suffer defeat in their opening match of the new season.

Number three Karanpreet Singh top-scored with 45 runs before being caught by wicketkeeper Andy Higgins off the bowling of Sam Parry.

Nadeem (28), opener Simpson (19), Saqlain Basharat (18) and Kashif Abassi (17) all made starts at the crease but could not convert them into big scores.

Parry was the best of the High Wycombe bowlers with his figures of 4-31 from 8.1 overs including the wickets of Singh and Raja Ifraz Khan (13). He also clean bowled Abassi and number 11 Drij Vyas (2).

Zaib claimed both the opening batsman, Simpson and Ghrial (0), in his 2-32 from seven overs, and Chandrasegaram chipped in with 2-54 from 10 overs.

Stoke Green welcome Boyne Hill this Saturday (1pm start), the visitors arriving on the back of an impressive eight-wicket win against Hayes last weekend.

won the toss and Wasim Maharoof was their chief destroyer as Hayes were skittled for just 59 runs in 24.3 overs.

Maharoof took 5-20 from six overs including five of the top six opening batsman and number four Prabhjot Singh for a duck.

Ziya Mohamed clean bowled captain Ramanjeet Singh Lall (6) and Ramneek Madial (0) in his 3-16 from 7.3 overs, while Matthew Leipold took Mandeep Singh (16) and Harman Momi (10), the only two batsman to reach double figures, in his 2-14 from seven overs.

Boyne Hill needed just 9.3 overs to reach 63-2 for victory on the opening day of the new season.

Number four Hamid Riaz top-scored with an unbeaten 30 (30*), with opener Leipold adding 10 and captain Ollie Clayson 7*.

Madial was the only Hayes bowler to claim a wicket, having Leipold caught by wicketkeeper Joshua Painter in his 1-25 from three overs.
