Marlow United completed a league and cup double as they beat Mortimer 2-1 at Madejski Stadium last Wednesday.

The Thames Valley League champions added the Berkshire Trophy Centre Senior Cup to their cabinet, having also reached the final of the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy.

Marlow had the better of the play early on, and should have taken the lead on the half-hour mark when Liam Bushay inexplicably missed from three yards out after being set-up by man-of-the-match Josh Fox.

And they were left to rue the miss within a minute, as a ball played down the United right found central defender Alan Mckie under pressure.

His hesitation allowed Mortimer’s Prince Massaquoi to cross the ball to an unmarked Matthew Fox, and he slotted home from 12 yards to put the Villagers in front.

Marlow hit back and had a Felix Prudden goal ruled out for off-side before Chris Hurst and Ollie Flint went close, although Mortimer could have doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time when Lee Vincent hit the crossbar from close range.

Four minutes into the second half the scores were level as a Qwamani Thomas free-kick rebounded around the penalty area before McKie chipped it to Hurst who blasted home.

United poured forward and Darren Rockell headed wide before Hurst missed the target, but Mortimer should have gone back in front with 15 minutes remaining when Casey Warwick recieved the ball unmarked in front of goal.

However, his goal-bound effort deflected off one of his own players and over the bar.

And Marlow made the Villagers suffer shortly after, Thomas scoring direct from a free-kick to make it 2-1 with eight minutes remaining.
