Gerrards Cross followed up their opening day victory in the Thames Valley Cricket League Division 1 over Slough 2s with another comprehensive victory over newly promoted Wargrave on Saturday.

Having lost the toss and been inserted, Gerrards Cross struggled early on and slipped to 40-4 thanks to some tight bowling from the Wargrave openers. Ben Lane (33) steadied the ship with a vital fifth wicket partnership alongside the ever present Australian David Cleary (100) who batted superbly until the final over before being stumped having got Gerrards Cross to 239-8.

Set 240 to win, Wargrave lost two early wickets, both lbw to Jon Denning. A rapid third wicket partnership of over 50 put Wargrave in contention before captain Richard Knudsen (5-44) turned the game on its head. Young leg spinner James Dalby took two wickets to end the game with Gerrards Cross winning by 52 runs. They host North Maidenhead at Dukes Lane next week, who have also won their first two games.
