OVER 60 people attended the Cricket World Cup Club Family Day at Frieth Cricket Club on Sunday.

As well as the junior section coaching, families came along to enjoy a barbecue, purchased through funding from the ECB World Cup Club Fund, and take part in a traditional sports day.

Frieth Chairman Ben Smiley said: "We're extremely grateful to the ECB for giving us the chance to become a World Cup Club and subsequent access to a funding scheme that enabled us to purchase new event equipment.

"Village clubs around the country are struggling to survive and, through this World Cup Club programme, we've been able to engage with more children, families and potential players from our community which can only be positive for the future of cricket in the Chilterns."

  • FRIETH supported a day of cricket coaching at Frieth Church of England School by part-funding a visit from Future Legends.

The coaching coincides with the junior section, which runs every Sunday morning until July 21.

It is hoped that a number of youngsters from the school will be inspired to join the relaxed Sunday morning coaching.

Boys and girls are welcome to join the junior section, which runs between 10.30-12pm. Sessions cost £5 per week or £2 each for junior members.

  • FRIETH won their first match of the season when beating Little Marlow by five wickets on Saturday.

A dominant bowling performance, led by Ashan Maqbool (5-15), restricted the hosts to 81 runs all out in the 31st over.

In response, Frieth captain Abdul Karim opened the batting and guided his team to victory with a steady 39 not out, winning the match with a stylish six.

The result still leaves Frieth bottom of Premier Division Two but a mere 12 points behind a mid-table position.
