Adebayo Akinfenwa has committed himself to Wycombe Wanderers for a fourth season, penning a new one-year contract at Adams Park.

The striker has scored 44 times since joining from AFC Wimbledon in 2016, cementing his place as a true Chairboys hero by topping the scoring charts at the club in each campaign.

Known affectionately as ‘The Beast’, the 37-year-old won both the Supporters’ and Players’ Player of the Year prizes in his first two seasons, and played a huge part in Wanderers’ successful first season back in League One, scoring two crucial goals in the victory at Southend United as well as his 200th career goal against Burton Albion earlier in the campaign.

Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth said: “People have been writing Bayo off since he first pulled on a pair of football boots, but he continues to deliver year after year and he’s such a huge part of what we’ve been building here, so I’m delighted to keep him here.

“He brings so much to the club, on and off the pitch, and I know how popular he is with the rest of the squad, all the staff, and all of the supporters, and I firmly believe he’s still got what it takes to be a real driving force for us again next season.”

Akinfenwa follows fellow striker Scott Kashket in pledging his future to the club, following news of Kashket’s new three-year deal at the end of May.
