Wycombe Wanderers legend Paul Hayes has announced his retirement from football, after nearly two decades as a professional.

Hayes scored 39 goals in 132 appearances for the Chairboys in two spells, initially on loan in the 2011/12 season before signing permanently and remaining at Adams Park for three years between 2014/17.

His goals nearly fired Wanderers to promotion in the 2014/15 League Two campaign before the Blues lost to Southend in the play-off final at Wembley.

The 36-year-old will probably be best remembered for his brace in the FA Cup fourth round match against the mighty Tottenham Hotspur in January 2017 which put the Chairboys 2-0 ahead and on course for one of the biggest upsets in the competition's history.

Agonisingly, the Chairboys lost that game 4-3 in the last minute at White Hart Lane but Hayes will be remembered fondly by the Wycombe fans.

The Dagenham born forward also played for Scunthorpe, Charlton. Brentford and Preston amongst others in a wonderful career.
