Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Dominic Gape admitted he was delighted to be staying at Adams Park for another season after penning a new one-year deal.

Gape has been a key figure in the engine room since he joined nearly three years ago from Southampton and is arguably one of the best central midfielders in League One.

The 24-year-old is keen to get cracking and spoke of his desire to keep improving under Gareth Ainsworth and Richard Dobson.

He said: "I am absolutely delighted and I can't wait to get the training kit back on and get some work done.

"Keeping our status in League One was our target last year and we achieved that and let's have a good pre-season and put together new targets this year and hopefully kick on."

Gape pinpointed the strength of the core of the squad which he believes will continue to cause teams problems in League One next term.

He added: "As a club we have strength in the coaching department and the players we have.

"We have a strong fanbase and starting the 500 Club again shows that support.

"Size isn't what we have got but strength definitely is."

Gape also explained that working with Ainsworth and Dobson again was an important factor in him signing that extension.

He said: "The gaffer is great and I have worked really well with him since I have come in and it is a massive factor to keep working with him and keep pushing with him and learning off Dobbo."
