SEVEN members from Gerrards Cross travelled to Eastbourne to represent Buckinghamshire against Sussex in a Home Counties fixture on Saturday.

In a close encounter, Bucks ran out winners by five shots to record an impressive victory over the much larger county.

Meanwhile in Maltman's Lane,

the Cross

were entertaining bowlers from Fasnidge in a mixed friendly. New bowlers are the lifeblood of any club and there were debuts for Neil Flynn and Chris Commons, who featured in the top rink with Andy Welch and Kirk Smith.

Sunday was certainly a super one for the men of

Gerrards Cross

with two difficult and important fixtures.

The morning saw the quarter-final of the Bucks Cup against a strong team from Stony Stratford. The Bucks Cup is a four-rink triple competition with the winning criteria being the cumulative scores across all rinks.

The cross started by taking a strong lead but the men from the North of the county began to get back into the game and, with two games completed and just two end to play, Stony Stratford were holding the advantage.

However, fine last ends from the triples skipped by David Ross and Kirk Smith meant a four-shot win for Gerrards Cross, who now progress into the semi-final.

The majority of the team then travelled to Bletchley Town for the Top Club event where it is disciplines rather than shots that are used as the scoring differentiator.

David Simpson, in the Two Woods, got the first point on the board with an emphatic win. England captain Tom McGuinness added the second point with a fine win in the Four Woods.

The fours comprising of McGuinness, Neil Farnish, Michael Gomme and Matt Hyde dominated throughout and were in an unassailable position to earn an important and deciding third point.

Bletchley conceded with the Cross being up on all rinks to score an impressive 5-0 win. Therefore, winning rinks for the pairs of David Ross and Smith plus the triples of Kevin Dwyer, George Reid and Andrew Briden.

Gerrards Cross will now meet a team either from Oxfordshire or Wiltshire in the next round.
