Wycombe Wanderers have made their ninth summer signing as Josh Parker has signed a two-year contract just in time for Saturday’s League 1 curtain-raiser against Bolton Wanderers at Adams Park.

The forward helped Charlton Athletic win promotion to the Championship last season, having signed from Gillingham in January, and impressed during a trial period with the Chairboys in pre-season.

Blues boss Gareth Ainsworth said: “Josh is a very established player at this level and he gives another exciting dimension in attack. We want to score more goals this season and be able to vary the way we play, and I believe Josh will fit really well into the squad in terms of his ability and character.

“I’ve known Josh since his days at QPR when he was a teenager, and followed his career closely, and I’m really pleased to bring him to the club.”

Parker is in line for his second debut for the Chairboys, having featured once as a loanee back in 2010 before sustaining an injury. Permanent spells with Oldham and Oxford followed before he moved overseas to represent clubs in Slovenia and Serbia, returning to the UK in 2017 with Wealdstone before being snapped up by Gillingham.

He scored 18 times in two years for the Gills – including a header against Wanderers last season – before playing his part in Charlton’s play-off success last term.
