Wycombe forward Alex Samuel explained there were so many positives to take from their defeat on penalties to Reading in the Carabao Cup clash at Adams Park.

Samuel got the ball rolling with a deft header in the second half before Reading got level through George Puscas.

The Blues had chances to win it but were defeated on penalties, with the Royals far more clinical in the shootout.

However, Samuel believes that there is plenty to take from the game moving forward for the rest of the season.

He said: "We take massive positives. We more than matched a Championship team and we have MK Dons at the weekend and we can go into the game full of confidence and we can really upset teams."

Samuel also praised his fellow frontmen, Scott Kashket and Josh Parker, in a new-look front three from the game on Saturday against Bristol Rovers.

He added: "That's the beauty of strengthening the squad.

"The likes of me, Scotty and Josh can show that we can cause Championship teams problems. Then at 70 minutes when we are blowing you can put in Fred, Bayo and Wheeler so it is brilliant."

Samuel grabbed his first goal of the season with a superb header at the near post and he admitted that was a plan before kick off.

He said: "We were working on it on the training ground.

"They had very zonal marking and we tried to get in round the front of them.

"Josh is an incredible player and he put a perfect ball in and all I had to do was get my head on it and it was great to see it go in the back of the net."
