FORMER Wycombe Wanderers captain Adam El-Abd admits he is extremely proud to have played for the Chairboys after leaving the club by mutual consent on Monday.

El-Abd played an important role as Wycombe achieved promotion into League One and then survived in the division, but he has left to explore opportunities elsewhere.

He said: "I’m extremely proud to have played for Wycombe Wanderers and been given the honour to wear the captain’s armband during such a successful time for the club, firstly achieving promotion and reaching the target of surviving in the division last year.

"From the moment I walked into the club I was made to feel welcome and I knew straightaway this was a place I would enjoy my football, and I was proved right.

"The staff were first class with me and the manager (Gareth Ainsworth) showed great belief in my ability and what I could bring to the club.

"The changing room was one of the best environments I’ve had the pleasure to be part of. The lads have this fantastic togetherness and work ethic which played such a big part in what we’ve managed to achieve.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club and leave with nothing but fond memories and sincere gratitude for the support and friendship of everyone around the place.

"For me, it’s time for a new challenge, but I’ll always be grateful to everyone at the club, including the supporters, who help make this such a special place to play football.

"I’ll always keep an eye out for results and hope to come back to watch games at Adams Park with my boys in the future.

"I have no doubt that the club is in good hands and heading in the right direction."
