MARLOW got the new season in Middx, Berks, Bucks & Oxon Regional One under way after a 1-0 win at home against Witney on Saturday.

Their opening match of the campaign was closer than might have been expected but James Ward scored the goal that made the difference in his final game before moving to Suffolk.

The second team got under way with a commendable 3-1 win at Milton Keynes 2s with goals from Dan Field, Mavneet Girn and Harvey Loretto.

Other results: South Berkshire 2s 5-3 Marlow 3s, Marlow 4s 5-2 OMT 3s, Oxford 5s 4-1 Marlow 5s and Marlow 6s 1-0 Aylesbury 4s.

Marlow ladies lost 5-2 to Hampstead & Westminster 2s, who are likely to be the strongest team in the league this season as a number of players featured in their first team that was promoted to the national premier league last season.

It was an excellent performance from Marlow with both goals coming from Jane Smith.

The second team won 1-0 against South Berks thanks to a goal from Vic Allen, whilst Levi Rijks and Eleanor Sharpe scored for the third team in a 2-2 draw with Oxford 3s.

The sixth team won 7-1 against Wycombe 6s to keep them top in Division Seven. Both Allie Pennant and Sarah Maddern scored twice with further strikes from Taisa Lane, Emma Kelleway and Krishni Chavada.

This week also saw many of the club’s junior teams get under way with the highlight being the girls’ Under 16s winning 7-0 at Cambridge City.
