CHINNOR Director of Rugby Matt Williams was full of praise for his players following their pulsating 27-27 draw at second-placed Rosslyn Park on Saturday.

Caolan Ryan converted Jason Worrall’s try in the last play as Chinnor took home a valuable two points from The Rock.

Tries from Ehize Ehizode and Willie Ryan, as well as 10 points from the boot of Laurence May, had seen the visitors lead 20-12 after 50 minutes.

Chinnor arguably deserved to come away with a victory in a match played in relentless rain, but Williams was delighted nonetheless.

“It was definitely the least the boys deserved,” he said. “For me, that’s the best we’ve played this year.

“In the first half, we completely controlled the tempo of the game and were unlucky not to score literally just before half-time.

“In the second half, Rosslyn threw the kitchen sink at us and we dealt with it really well.”

The quality of the game was made all the more impressive by the driving rain it was played in.

Williams added: “I thought we controlled the conditions well. We gave a few silly penalties away which relieved the pressure we created, but apart from that we were in control.

“You could say that was three points lost but that was a big draw. That was a big two points for us.

“Psychologically after getting five points at home last week, to come to one of the hardest places in the league - one of the favourites to get promoted - and come away with a draw, I’m really pleased with the boys. It’s about momentum for us now.”

  • CHINNOR produced one of their best performances of the season as they struck late to earn a thrilling 27-27 draw at Rosslyn Park.

Ryan held his nerve to convert Worrall’s try in the last play for the visitors.

It was the least Chinnor deserved and moved them up to fifth position in the National League One.

Former Chinnor man Craig Holland traded penalties with May as the sides were locked at 6-6.

The visitors had been starting to dominate proceedings and Ehizode drove over on 32 minutes, May converting, to make it 13-6.

Two Holland penalties either side of the break cut Chinnor’s lead to a point.

However, the visitors immediately replied as Ryan celebrated the birth of his second child with a try. May added the extras to make it 20-12.

Park rallied and went on to lead 27-20 with 11 minutes to go, thanks to tries from Neville Edwards and Hugo Ellis. Holland, who also kicked another penalty, converting the latter.

Chinnor were not to be deterred however as Worrall dived over with seconds remaining and there was only time for the conversion, which Ryan coolly slotted between the posts.
