Matt Bloomfield is looking forward to facing his old club for the first time as Wycombe Wanderers travel to Ipswich Town on Tuesday night.

The 35-year-old, who joined the Chairboys from his boyhood club in 2003, will make his first appearance at Portman Road as a professional player in what is the inaugural meeting between the two sides.

Wycombe are currently top of League One.

Bloomfield said: “When the fixtures came out in June, I fully expected them to be in the top two but not in my wildest dreams did I think that we would be up alongside them in the top two.

“Ipswich away on a Tuesday evening under the lights will have a great atmosphere and we just have to go there with an inner belief, quality and strength of character that says we can compete.

“We’re looking forward to a special night on Tuesday.”

Bloomfield was speaking after Wycombe’s 1-0 victory over Doncaster on Saturday, he where came off injured following a strong tackle from Donny’s Tom Anderson, with the latter being shown a straight red card for the challenge.

His replacement, Adebayor Akinfenwa, was then fouled in the penalty area in the final minute of the match, with Joe Jacobson scoring the resulting spot-kick.

It was Wycombe’s 10th clean sheet of the league season, matching their total for the whole of the last campaign.

Bloomfield added: “I’m feeling quite sore but fair play to Anderson.

“He came in and apologised after the game and I bare no grudges because it’s a game of football at the end of the day but I’m extremely lucky it’s not worse.

“He hit the shin and it’s really sore so I’m hoping it’ll settle down for Tuesday night.

“We’re just enjoying ourselves at the minute and the gaffer made some fantastic signings in the summer.

“We must make sure that we enjoy every moment of this because we’ve endured some tough times here, and these are the good times – we need to make sure that they continue.

“We’re looking forward to a special night on Tuesday.”
