HOLMER Green face an uphill battle against relegation from the Hellenic League Premier Division in the New Year after a 4-0 defeat to Virginia Water on Saturday, writes Rob Stevens.

The Greens have won just once in the league all season and find themselves 10 points behind second-bottom Brimscombe & Thrupp with the added disadvantage of having played two games more.

Goals from Jake Baker and Dale Wright gave Virginia Water a clear lead heading into the break at Stag Meadow with both Josh Dillon and Jack Hall on target in the second half.

Holmer are now on a 19-match losing streak in all competitions ahead of a visit to Watchet Lane from Brackley Town Saints on Saturday (3pm).

Flackwell Heath extended their unbeaten run in the Premier Division to four matches following a 1-1 draw at Reading City.

The Heathens have not tasted defeat in the league since the loss at Royal Wootton Bassett Town back in November and now stand in 12th position in the table.

A goal from Khalid Simmo gave the visitors to Rivermoor the lead heading into the break but Reading rescued a point when Stacy Gyan-Boatey struck inside the final five minutes.
